BIMB Holding’s Continuing Resilience

GLC’s financial performance took a hit last year due to number of factors, including dropping oil price, and the weakening ringgit. However, as pointed out by the latest report by The Focus List on its Best Listed GLCs table, these companies are not doing that bad (share price and market capitalisation), with a combined (44 listed GLCs) market capitalisation of RM670.2 billion as of 18 March 2016, or 39.8% of Bursa Malaysia’s main market capitalisation of RM1,683 billion on the same date. In the same report, Focus Malaysia has compiled its list of top 44 listed GLCs according to their Return-on-Equity (ROE), a measure of company’s profitability which is reflected by how much profit a company generates with the money shareholders have invested. While Bursa Malaysia gave the best ROE among GLCs last year and took the top spot, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia managed to take second place with BIMB Holdings ranked fourth on the list, an indication of our continuing resilience in the face of the expected challenging year.
